Dear Graham Families,

We have enjoyed a wonderful start to the school year. The first day was a beautiful day. I want to thank Scout Troop # 988 for the presentation of the Colors and leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our 1st – 5th graders started on Monday, our kindergartners joined us on Tuesday and our brand new to Graham preschoolers started on Wednesday! It’s wonderful to have all our students in the building! The students are working their way into getting into the rhythm school, learning routines and structures, and getting to know their teachers. We enjoyed seeing everyone last evening for Curriculum Night. The staff and I will continue our goals of improving student learning and high achievement.

Our Preschool arrivals and dismissals have gone better each day. Thank you to everyone who has come to Graham this week to volunteer, pick up or drop off a student for following our new rules regarding the front parking lot. As we have worked through our first week of Preschool with this system, it has become apparent that it may be easier to avoid the front lot entirely and use only the west parking lot. Please keep in mind the drop off and pick up hours:

Morning Session – Drop off: 8 – 8:15, Pick up: 10:45 – 11AM

Afternoon Session – Drop off: 12 – 12:15, Pick up: 2:45 – 3PM

Something new for this year is the use of the IPSD Webstore. If you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader you may have already received information about the Webstore. This system will be used throughout the year with your PushCoin account. If you don’t have a PushCoin account you will need to create an account and link your student to it first. Please be aware the Webstore requires a modern browser (IE 10/11, Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Safari). Please follow the directions outlined on the “How to Access the IPSD Webstore to purchase/pay for items”. You will receive notice when this system is being used to purchase something for your child

We are continuing to use the same entry and exit processes at Graham in the interest of safety and security for students. Please remember that the procedure for visitors: you will be asked to identify yourself at the entry buzzer, you will then come to the School Office for a visitor badge if you are volunteering or doing other business within the building. All visitors will be asked to present a valid state issued ID that will be entered into the Raptor system. We ask for your cooperation in presenting your valid state issued ID when entering the school. Your ID will be returned to you when you leave the building. Thank you in advance for helping to keep our school safe.

We continue to learn and train to gain information and experience to help keep our students safe. This year all of our staff are trained in student safety protocols. We also continue to practice weather and safety drills throughout the school year.

Third-Party Educational Programs

The following companies have rented space in our schools to offer an after-school educational program for students. The distribution of this material is in no way an endorsement of programs, services, activities or products by District 204. For more information about the programs listed below, visit:

The first few weeks of school are a bit confusing during drop off and pick up. Here are a few reminders:

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL REMINDERS

v Traffic and Pedestrian Safety

Thank you for helping maintain a safe and sound environment for our students by always pulling forward, not leaving your car unattended and always using the crosswalk to cross through traffic. Following drop-off and pick-up procedures will help ensure a safe entrance and exit for all Graham students.

· The Car Pick-Up and Drop-Off Zone is the safest way to pick-up and drop-off your student before and after school. Please follow the direction of staff members in the pick-up/drop-off zone. In addition, please remember that it is illegal to use cellphones when in a school zone.

· Please remember to follow the traffic directions of our crossing guards and to fully stop at the stop signs.

v Parking

School buses use the front parking lot for loading and unloading. Cars are not permitted in the front parking lot until all buses have loaded or unloaded. This time will be adjusted for ten minutes later on Wednesday mornings due to the late arrival. Please obey all traffic control signs and curb markings. There is NO PARKING on the right hand side of the circle drive due to fire code. If you have a student who needs assistance during drop off/pick up, please contact the main office for a front entry pass.

v No Dogs at Arrival and Dismissal

For the safety of our students, we ask that parents refrain from bringing dogs onto school property during arrival and dismissal time periods, when students are present. This is per the District 204 Handbook.

v Walkers and Bike/Scooter Riders:

It is important to note that students use the crosswalk with the crossing guard. Students and younger sibling are to walk their bikes/scooters when they are on school grounds. Additionally, we ask that you monitor the use of motorized scooters when students and parents are present.

Reminders and Requests:

When calling in your child’s attendance or late arrival, please call the absent line 630-428-6900, option 3.
Please remember to include your child’s name and classroom teacher on a sticky note, when dropping off a forgotten item or bringing in lunch.
There are already items in the Lost and Found collection that are looking for ‘home’. If your child is missing an item, please feel free to come and look through the items.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend. The Graham Staff and I appreciate all you do in support of our students and Graham School.

Effective communication supports and provides students with the best possible support to be successful. If you have any questions, or concerns please feel contact me at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Ms. Walton
