PTA Newsletter - 10/15/19
Here is what is happening at Graham in the next couple weeks...
National PTA Reflections:
This year’s PTA Reflections theme is—— LOOK WITHIN. We presented this opportunity—— for the arts last week to the students during lunch and students are encouraged to—— participate (paying close attention to requirements)!—— All entries are due on October 18th and anyone that submits an entry will get a homework pass! Further details and an entry form can be found at:——
Questions can go to Co-Chairs Alissa Krusoe (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Suzanne Fallon (email@example.com)
Please consider supporting our runners’ efforts by joining us in a Spirit Squad on Sunday, October 20th during the Naperville 5K and Half Marathon for the IPEF. Spirit Squads are groups of people from District #204 building who cheer on the runners during the race. Graham has had a Spirit Squad for the last 3 years and we’ve always placed as one of the top squads! There are monetary prizes for the top three squads (Up to $1000!) and that money goes right back to the school. If you can join us, we will be meeting up around 7:30 am at the corner of West Street and Emerald Drive. The theme is superheros! (Feel free to dress accordingly!)
Red Ribbon Week:
Schools across the nation participate in Red Ribbon Week October 21-25 to encourage a drug free life for all of our children! The Graham PTA has planned special activities to honor this initiative and raise awareness through grade level, age specific handouts and activities for all of our Falcons. Look for information coming home in your child’s backpack about the daily themes and activities or see the attached flyer for an overview!
Harvest Party Sign Up:
We are looking for one more parent to help at Harvest Party in 1C on Thursday, October 31st. If you can help, please volunteer here...
Please save the date of Wednesday, November 6th for our Girls Choice event. This event is for our Graham girls and their chosen VIP. The event will be at Bowlero from 6:30-8:30 pm. Look for invitations which will be coming home this week!
Mark your calendar for Bingo night on Friday, November 15th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm - we hope you can join us!
Blessings in a Backpack:
We are excited to partner again with Olney Allen Elementary in Aurora for our Blessings in a Backpack Program. We will be packing 400 care packages on November 18th (children will be able to participate during school), February 3rd (children and families will be able to participate before school), and May 18th (children will be able to participate during school). In addition we will be having a collection bin in the front lobby until November 18th for a Care Package Drive, and we would love to see it overflow with new mittens/gloves, hats, and scarves. If you would rather donate a gift card we can put that to good use and purchase those items on your behalf as well. Please contact Divya Metha (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions.
If you have not yet joined the PTA’s Facebook page, please do so today! You must re-join every year. Follow this link and then follow the prompts to ask to join… https://www.facebook.com/groups/grahampta/
We would like to send a few huge thank yous out. First, thank you to Karen Masters and Corrine Dimmick for leading the Falcon Fundraiser again this year - thanks to them, we not only hit our goal, but exceeded it! Thank you to Kelly Hampton who designed and organized all of the spiritwear - our Falcon family is going to be well-dressed this year! Thank you to Jennifer Amato for organizing all of the room parents and getting the class parties up and running - it is not an easy job!. Thank you to Anne McAnelly for getting Watch D.O.G.S. up and running - the dads are excited to experience a day in the life at Graham starting this month. Thank you to Anne McAnelly and Kate Sankey for running the boxtop program for us - which is proving to be challenging with the program changing over to a digital format. Thank you to Heather High who officially kicked off the Art Awareness Program at Graham - our students will be so excited to have additional exposure to the arts! Thank you to Mandy Traynor and Margie Polcyn who have gotten the Buddy to Buddy Program up and running again at lunch times - it is a wonderful experience for the children to reach out and be a friend to a student who may be a little lonely. We are so fortunate to have volunteers like the ones highlighted above to help us with all of the events and programs that we have at Graham - we couldn’t do it without them!
