Dear Graham Families,
The cold weather has arrived. Please remember that students do go outside during recess. We monitor the weather and the temperature and do not send students outside if it is raining or if the wind chill is below 5° Fahrenheit.
Winter reminders for Graham students and their families.
Please make sure that your students are properly attired with a hat, gloves, and appropriate weight coat.
Students must have boots and snow pants if they want to play on the field and playground when there is snow on the ground. Children without boots and snow pants must remain on the blacktop when there is snow on the field and the playground.
During the cold weather months, traffic in the parent pick-up zone increases. Please review the traffic procedures in the Car Pick-up Line and be sure to follow the directions of staff in the Car Pick-Up line.
Giftmart – 2019
Giftmart is an innovative program that provides under resourced families with a “hand up” during the holiday season. Qualifying parents and guardians are given the dignity to purchase each of the toys they select in the Giftmart for only $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each participating school for their children’s programming.
If you are interested in participating you can bring in a new, unwrapped toy valued between $18 - $20 between November 10 - December 8 (no stuffed animals please) to the boxes labeled Giftmart in the lobby of the school.
The 5Essentials 2019 - We Need Your Feedback
Parents across Illinois once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
2. Type and select “DuPage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that effect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.

The Veteran’s Day assembly will be November 11th at 9:30AM. If we have not received a picture of a family member in uniform who has served or is serving in the military, there’s still time to send it in to have it included in the front hallway on our “Wall of Heroes”.
Information regarding Parent -Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are in November. In order to use Power PTC, you will use your Home Access Center (HAC) login and password. When you login to the Home Access Center you will find a link to PowerPTC where you will enter this information. Attached to this newsletter is a screenshot detailing the location in HAC. Once your account is set up, you will be able to schedule your conferences during the following times: Scheduling is now open and closes: Tuesday, November 19th at 8 am. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on the following dates: November 21st (Thursday) 4:30pm-8:00pm, November 25th (Monday) 8:00am-8:00pm.
Need to Know
Picture Retakes - If you would like your child to take a picture retake, please return your child’s picture and prepare them for taking a new on November 12th in the morning. If you are new to Graham School and your child did not have a picture taken, please call or email to let us know and we will send a form home on Monday evening for you to order pictures for your student.
Reminders for Assignment Notebooks
If you are in grades 3rd ,4th, and 5th please remember to pay for your student’s Assignment Notebook. The cost is $3.50 per notebook. If you have a fourth grade student, please send in payment for the Scholastic News. This is something the students use weekly. The cost is $6.50. Thank you to those who have already paid.
Reminders and Requests:
When calling in your child’s attendance or late arrival, please call the 24 hour absent line 630-428-6900, option 3.
Please remember to include your child’s name and classroom teacher on a sticky note, when dropping off a forgotten item or bringing in lunch.
There are already items in the Lost and Found collection that are looking for ‘home’. If your child is missing an item, please feel free to come and look through the items.
