PTA Newsletter 12/2/19
Here’s what is coming up in December (and a January item too)….
Holiday Class Gift:
Don’t forget that room parents are collecting money for a class gift for your child’s teacher. You can send an envelope into school with your donation. Please address the envelope to CLASS PARENT and make sure to include your student’s class. (i.e. Class Parent for 2G)
Gifts for District 204 Families:
The Graham PTA is collecting gift cards that will be used for fellow District 204 families in need. These families have limited space and/or move around a lot and so we are holding a gift card drive to help provide for these children. Collecting gift cards (as opposed to gifts) will give the families an opportunity to take pride in making their own gift purchases for their kids. Also consider gift cards to restaurants, transportation and grocery stores to help the families as a whole. Keep in mind places that offer coupons/deals for kids to help stretch their budget. If you are able to help, please drop off any gift cards (no amount is too big or small!) in the gift box in the main office by Thursday, December 5th. The District’s gift card suggestions are below.
Grocery and Clothing:
7-Eleven, Aldi, American Express, Kohls, Meijer, Target, TJ Maxx, Walgreens, Walmart, VIsa
Burger King, Cracker Barrel, Denny’s Dominos, Dunkin Donuts, IHOP, Jet’s Pizza, Jimmy Johns, Little Caesars, McDonalds, Panera, Subway, Taco Bell, Wendy’s
BP, Meijer, Shell, Thornton’s, Speedway
Amusement Park, Bowling, Golf, Haircuts, Museums, Movies, Zoo
Let’s share our Graham generosity with others in need this season! Thank you in advance for any and all that you can do to help!
If you ordered Butter Braid, please mark your calendar to pick the products on Friday, December 6th from 2:30 - 5:00 pm. Please enter using Door 2 and go to the MPR. If you are unable to pick up your Butter Braid order at the designated time, please email Stephanie at StephanieMelone@gmail.com in advance to make alternate arrangements.
Every Thursday and Friday, volunteers staff our Makerspace so that the students have access to more involved projects and activities. This includes programming robots, creating their own video games, themed Makerspace challenges, and much more. Without the help of volunteers, this would not be possible.
We are in need of volunteers to fill several open time slots for Makerspace. No experience is needed. Just the desire to work with students. If we have any interested parents, grandparents, etc that would be willing to help, please contact Brooke Murphy at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Next PTA Meeting:
The next PTA Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 12th at 9:30 am. Our special guest speaker will be Adam Smeets, the Chief Technology Officer for District 204. There will be door prizes, so please plan to attend!
Join us at Chipotle on December 19th for our next restaurant night.
Our Winter Party will be held on Friday, December 20th. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to work that event!
Graham’s Global Adventures Planning Meeting:
We will be meeting to plan Graham’s Global Adventures Night which is an event celebrating the diversity of our families (slated for April 15th) on Friday, January 10th at 2 pm. Please come to the planning meeting to help us put together a cultural fair representing what makes Graham uniquely special including demonstrations surrounding each culture’s holidays, clothing, artwork, music, and special traditions. This will be a world showcase— a night for students and families to share and learn from each other and inspire meaningful connections and conversations! If you are interested in helping in this event, please come to the planning meeting. We’d love to hear your ideas!
If you have taken pictures in the month of November for Girls Choice, Skate Night, Veteran’s Day, Bingo, Blessings in a Backpack, or any other events that you would like to be included in the yearbook, please email them to:
We want to thank Divya Mehta for coordinating the Blessings in a Backpack packing event as well as the hat and mitten drive. It is always wonderful to be able to give back to our community! A big thank you to Kate Sankey for coordinating the snacks and lunch that we were able to provide to our teachers during Teacher Conferences right before break! Thank you also to all of you who donated gift cards and food items - it was very much appreciated!
Graham is again partnering with Gift Mart Wheatland Community in holding a toy drive to benefit under resourced children in Indian Prairie School District 204. These families come from households in financial stress whom may not otherwise be able to afford gifts for the holidays. Gift Mart is a program that provides families who qualify with a “hand up” during the holiday season. Parents and guardians are invited to a toyshop where they can purchase new toys for only $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to qualifying schools to fund much needed resources. Please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy that is safe for children ages 6-12. Toy boxes are by the front office and ready to go! Boxes will be up until December. Your generosity and giving spirit are appreciated!
