Dear Graham Families,
We have enjoyed a wonderful start to the school year. The students are working their way into getting use to school once again. The staff and I will continue our goals of improving student learning and high achievement. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on September 13 for Curriculum Night. The teachers look forward to sharing information regarding the instructional day. Please remember this is a parent only event.

We have changed our dismissal procedure at Graham this year. Thank you for your patience as we work to smooth things out at the beginning of the year with both our walkers and our car riders. The first few weeks of school are a bit confusing during drop off and particularly pick up. I am thankful to everyone who has helped us improve our systems. We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to dismiss in a timely and efficient manner.

ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL REMINDERS
—— Traffic and Pedestrian Safety
Thank you for helping maintain a safe and sound environment for our students by always pulling forward, not leaving your car unattended and always using the crosswalk to cross through traffic. Following drop-off and pick-up procedures will help ensure a safe entrance and exit for all Graham students.

• The Car Pick-Up and Drop-Off Zone is the safest way to pick-up and drop-off your student before and after school. Please follow the direction of staff members in the pick-up/drop-off zone. In addition, please remember that it is illegal to use cellphones when in a school zone.

• Please remember to follow the traffic directions of our crossing guards and to fully stop at the stop signs.

—— Parking
School buses use the front parking lot for loading and unloading. Cars are not permitted in the front parking lot until all buses have loaded or unloaded. I have seen individual cars parking in the front lot in the morning. This presents a safety concern. Bus drivers cannot always see a person walking in front of, or to the side of the bus. Please be aware the time for bus usage adjusts ten minutes later on Wednesday mornings due to the later start to the day. Please obey all traffic control signs and curb markings. There is NO PARKING on the right hand side of the circle drive due to fire code. If you have a student who needs assistance during drop off/pick up, please contact the main office for a front entry pass.

—— No Dogs at Arrival and Dismissal
For the safety of our students, we ask that parents refrain from bringing dogs onto school property during arrival and dismissal time periods, when students are present. This is per the District 204 Handbook.

—— Walkers and Bike/Scooter Riders:
It is important to note that students use the crosswalk with the crossing guard. Students and younger sibling are to walk their bikes/scooters when they are on school grounds. Additionally, we ask that you monitor the use of motorized scooters when students and parents are present.

Reminders and Requests:
•When calling in your child’s attendance or late arrival, please call the absent line 630-428-6900, option 3.
•Please remember to use the grade level shelf in the foyer when dropping off a forgotten item or bringing in lunch. Additionally please include your child’s name and classroom teacher on a sticky note, if the child’s name is not clearly visible on the item.
•There are already items in the Lost and Found collection that are looking for ‘home’. If your child is missing an item, please feel free to come and look through the items.

Please remember the procedure for when our school. You will be asked to identify yourself at the entry buzzer. You will then come to the School Office for a visitor badge if you are volunteering or doing other business within the building. All District 204 schools use the Raptor system which helps track visitors, including volunteers who enter our school. All visitors will be asked to present a valid state issued ID that will be entered into the Raptor system. Once entered, staff will instantly receive alerts on people who may jeopardize school safety. We ask for your cooperation in presenting your valid state issued ID when entering the school. Your ID will be returned to you when you leave the building. Thank you in advance for helping to keep our school safe.
