Math Curriculum
We use the Addison-Wesley Mathematics
series. We integrate problem solving, reasoning, group work and the use of manipulatives
into math lessons to provide an opportunity for success for all learners. Student progress
is continually monitored through paper and pencil activities and in discussions. We use
many "hands on" activities with the children when teaching math concepts. The
children need to begin with concrete examples and activities and after achieving mastery,
they move on to "pencil and paper" work.
We Cover Such Areas As:
Patterning and sorting
Addition and subtraction to 2
Place Value
Measurement
Time and money
Geometry
Counting by 2's, 5's and 10's (Zero the Hero)
Estimate and graphing
Problem solving
At the end of first grade your child should be able to:
